OK, so it’s only one picture of my stuff, but I’m still excited. Sherri, Rachel and Michelle Haab have just released (in the US) a book called “The Art of Resin Clay”.  Sherri had approached me a while ago and asked if I would be willing to contribute to the gallery section of the book. Of course, I said yes!

The book will be available in the UK in January 2012, so not long to wait.

OK, I lied…

I said that I was going to stop making jewellery and concentrate on my paintings. It’s difficult to do though and I keep coming back to my wire and beads and playing around!

Stroppel canes and wire wrap

November 21, 2011

I came across a great idea the other day for using up scrap polymer clay. As I have a lot of old canes that have been sitting in the box for ages, I though that I would use them up. The woman who came up with this idea is called Alice Stroppel – here’s a link to a demonstration that she did, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y07zXuLZe20 – and it lends itself to further exploration.

Here are a couple of pieces that I did using a slightly modified version of the Stroppel cane. Instead od using black clay between the layers, I used coloured clay. I also tried cutting through old canes longitudinally and putting them into the “sandwich”

Wishy Fishies

I felt the need to hammer some metal today. Here’s a couple of the things that I made. One pair in silver and one in copper.

Another thistle…

October 11, 2011

Here’s another thistle for the Artinkulate’s Charity Thistle Auction which I mentioned in a previous post. They are becoming addictive. This one is acrylic on canvas.

Pop up exhibition – St Giles Centre, Elgin

October 2, 2011

I’ll be taking part in a “pop-up exhibition” at St. Giles Shopping Centre in Elgin. We will be in one of the shop units on the top floor, in the old Evans shop.

Several artists and the members of the Speyside Artisans group will be displaying and selling their work.

The event runs from Friday, 7th October to Monday 19th October, 10am – 4pm (Sunday 11am – 4pm).

I look forward to seeing you there!

In the meantime I have been adding more photos of paintings to my new website – www. doricdragons.co.uk.  I am also planning another exhibition at a local venue, more on that once I have got everything organised!

Artinkulate Charity Thistle Auction

September 29, 2011

A friend of mine, Anne Doble is organising a charity auction. She asked people to create thistles in any shape or form to sell at the auction. It looks like it will be a great event!

You can find out more here: http://www.facebook.com/event.php?eid=214491871934155

Here are a couple of my attempts for Anne.

New Website

September 14, 2011

Well, I finally made the decision to change my Doric Dragons website design. All during this year, I have been thinking that my paintings are the most important thing for me and the new website is to reflect this.

I will carry on making some jewellery and sculpture occasionally but felt that the whole shopping cart website of all my work was taking too much time away from my painting.

It will be a while before I am happy with the new site and there is a lot more information that I need to include, but I will get there in the end!

Are we there yet? Errr no…

August 21, 2011

Almost, almost there. This is yesterday’s posted image but a with bit more done to it and turned round.

Long time, no post…

August 19, 2011

I know – I have been bad not keeping up with my blog! I am busy trying to get enough new work created for an upcoming exhibition to give viewers something different to look at.  A lot of the paintings just aren’t behaving well at the moment, or maybe its just me being too critical of my own work.

Here’s just one

of the almost there paintings!
